What NOT to Say to Someone Considering Divorce

When someone is considering divorce, he or she often turns to close friends and family for advice. Knowing what to say and how to say it can be a very difficult task for someone even if they have been through a divorce. The Huffington Post recently published an article on what not to say to someone getting divorced, and the full article can be found by clicking here. One of the worst things to say is telling someone "You'll get over it." This kind of advice is tough to hear during such an emotional time and can be very counterproductive. Try to be understanding and offer a listening ear instead of telling someone how they should feel or what they should do. Someone contemplating a divorce needs support and encouragement from those he or she is closest too.
